How to Choose a Tablet
Have you wanted to jump into the Tablet revolution that seems to be sweeping the world? iPads, Kindles, Nooks, Nexus'... these new names have become a part of our daily lives. Many people seem to use their tablet just as much as their new smart phones. There's a good reason for it. A Tablet can really help you get more done in the day that seems to only get shorter each year.
Tablets can work as a substitute for a full-sized or laptop computer these days for most of us. The screen which is larger than a smart phone's really helps in seeing more detail in a web page or even photos. They're easy to take with you almost anywhere from a meeting with a client to a college class you're taking.
I recommend the 7" sized tablet for most people. These are the most portable, lightweight, and reliable on the market. A 7" tablet is easy to fit in a woman's purse, for men to place in some pockets, and hang onto while keeping hold of other important items.
It's not a question of which tablet is better. It's more a question of which is better for you.
When looking at the various screen types available you want one with an HD dispaly. They are not just for high definition material, but they make all types of display material from simple text to high resolution photos/video look better. You typically cannot see the pixels with an HD screen unless you look extremely close. A popular resolution is 1280x800, but as time goes on, you will see even higher available. Screen filters are also a great option to have included. When using a tablet outside the light can wash-out the screen. I don't suggest buying an "applied" filter as they get air bubbles and reduce the overall brightness and contrast of your screen.
When it comes to power, most tablets have a dual core processor. The speed of the processor isn't important by itself. The processor combined with the ROM memory will give a an idea of its performance. The storage RAM is just used to store apps and your content. Go with a tablet with a minimum of 16GB of RAM, and if possible 1GB of ROM. You will be glad you did down the road. Otherwise you will run out of space within a year or so, or the latest apps simply wont run at all.
Battery life is more important that you think. Yes, you may have a charger with you all the time, but it really does get tiresome to see that little battery symbol turning red every day. Look for a tablet with a long battery life. You will be glad you did. Try to get one that will last at least 8 hours. Standby batter life is important as well, however there are apps that can help you with that.
Do you want a camera with the tablet? Decide what you want to use it for. Taking photos with a tablet can be cumbersome. I suggest taking photos with a separate camera and if you really have to... your smartphone. A front-facing camera on a tablet can be helpful for conference calls... video chatting with friends/family. No real need for a rear-facing camera in my opinion. They are just too hard to use and holding the tablet up like a camera looks... well, dumb.
Connections; headphone jacks are typically standard in tablets. But if you want to connect your tablet to a TV or other video, look for an HDMI or mini-HDMI port. This can be helpful in a business meeting, or to share photos/videos with friends and family.
Do you want stereo speakers? Be sure to check, as many tablets have two speakers, yet produce only mono sound. Stereo speakers really do make watching a TV show or movie more enjoyable. The headphone jack typically will output stereo however.
Some tablets allow separate profiles for different users. This would allow you to let your spouse or children to use the tablet, yet they would have their own settings and apps to choose from. An option to limit children's time on the tablet can be helpful so they actually get their homework done as well.
Conclusion:
You can see there are many things to consider in choosing a tablet that is right for you. I hope this information has helped those of you who have been frustrated by wondering "what is this tablet thing all about". How to Have a Wonderful Wedding on a Budget
Many brides have been dreaming about their wedding day since childhood. These dreams come with an expensive price tag and the realization of their fairytale day may be distant. Although, weddings are very costly today your dream day can happen. I am going to share some tips to cut corners and advice on how to save you money without making huge sacrifices. By making the time to plan and investigate, you will be amazed at the amount of money to save. You would not arrive at an interview for your dream job without prior preparation would you. No, you would not and that is why preparation and research will make your wedding a success without remortgaging your parents or your house!
Order a small wedding cake for the cake table to display and a large sheet cake to cut and serve from in the kitchen. Serve the cake as the dessert to complete your meal and forget about other sweets.
Rent, borrow or make as many items as possible! Some items to borrow from a friend or relative are a cake knife and serving set, toasting glasses, jewelry and the bride's shoes. You can make several items or enlist a few friends to help you with ribbons, pew bows, veil and headpiece, church programs, bridesmaids dresses, bridal purse, ring bearer pillow and the cake top to reduce costs.
Instead of hiring a florist, make items or contact local floral design school and hire them to provide your flowers. Carry a small bouquet or one flower and have your attendants do the same. The bridesmaid's bouquets can double as flower arrangements on the head table.
When shopping for dresses shop J.C. Penney and Chadwick's catalogs, consignment shops, discontinued gown racks, the Internet and newspaper ads. Remember it is always great if you can count on Dear Aunt Sally or your Grandmother to make them too! I am sure they would be honored.
When setting the wedding date you may want to consider choosing a Friday rather than a Saturday as it usually trims off about $3 per guest at your dinner reception. Choose buffet or plate dinner vs. sit-down. Serve chicken or pasta; it is less expensive. In addition, you may want to decide on a morning or an afternoon reception and serve cake, punch, and hors d'oeuvres. Serve beer, wine or just host a cocktail hour. Purchase your liquor from wholesalers. It may be wise to check with culinary and bakery schools in your area to see if they can help with food preparation. Many will prepare the food for its cost.
Rent a Cadillac or other luxury vehicle just for the Bride, Groom, Maid/Matron of Honor and Best Man to save on the expense of a limousine. The other members of the Bridal Party will most likely want to ride with their spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend to the reception.
When choosing your wedding invitation, select one that will only require one stamp. Another great tip is to have your reception information added on the ceremony invitation to eliminate the expense of the reception card.
A little thought and creativity will certainly go a long way to help you have a wonderful wedding on a budget! Good luck!

0 Developing A Wide Subject Vocabulary-Guidelines for the Teacher

Developing A Wide Subject Vocabulary-Guidelines for the Teacher
As a teacher, your class will take its lead from you in all that you do. The use of language is the first place this will start. Your example of using the language of the subjects you teach must be at the highest possible level. That doesn't mean to use words whose meanings are not known to the class but rather ones which enhance a child's progress.
Obviously, any new terminology you use in each subject must be explained and used in ways to consolidate the new work to be learnt. Below are some ways you could enhance the students' understanding of the use of language.
  • Colourful language. This does add interest or excitement to what you say or teach. No one says that when you teach you must use boring language. Use words that add colour and excitement to what you teach. Make it a goal of yours to look for ways to add colourful language particularly to the more difficult topics that you teach.
  • Use the language of the subject discipline often. Teach the class the origin and meaning of each new term that you introduce.
  • Create a spelling list of terms as you teach each topic. Some texts provide the lists for you.
  • Have a quiz of these terms often. Have little spelling bees/contests.
  • Have what I might call a definition test/quiz where the students write a definition of a subject term in simple language to explain its meaning to a person who has never seen the word before.
  • In your own speaking, learn to say the same ideas in as many ways as possible to give constant examples to your class about how to use our language in a variety of ways.
  • Insist that your students use the terms of the subject discipline in their answers to questions they write and in the questions or answers they ask or give.
Many modern syllabuses contain a requirement that communication as a skill in the subject must be assessed as part of the total assessment program. This implies that the student must use the terminology of the subject in their answers to all assessment tasks to show understanding of the language of the subject being tested.
The student needs a good base in the language of the subject to know what is required in each assessment task before they can begin to answer the question and answer in such a way as to show understanding of the subject.
During the last 16 years of his teaching career, our author, as Head of Mathematics, had to implement within his school's assessment program a new marking criteria in the assessment of Mathematics. That criterion was testing a student's communication skills in Mathematics. This meant he had to provide teacher inservice and make changes to the work programs to teach the students how to communicate in Mathematics. Go to http://www.realteachingsolutions.com for more information on this and other assessment issues.

Reading Strategies
Quick Reading Comprehension StrategiesTeachers are often faced with students who struggle when it comes to reading comprehension and fluency. There are a myriad of books on the subject of bringing your students to a higher level of comprehension and fluency, but most classroom teachers do not have a lot of time to read outside of grading papers, parent conferences, professional development requirements, administrative duties, extra-curricular duties, oh and teaching students for hours every day. The following is a list of strategies that teachers can stick on their desk for quick reference on ideas for reading strategies.
• Have students read with a pencil in hand. They should annotate the text as they read.
• Have students use sticky notes to mark pages, concepts, or words they are unsure about and need to come back to or reference in a dictionary.
• Have students read with a dictionary on their desks or a dictionary app on their technology device for quick definitions of unknown words.
• Have students read twice. First do a "cold" read where students read straight through. Then instruct them to do a close read using highlighters or pencils to annotate and make notes.
• To increase fluency, have students read aloud the same short passages four to five times to each other.
• Have students take Cornell notes or modified Cornell notes as they read non-fiction pieces. They should notate important vocabulary, dates, or concepts.
• When reading fiction pieces, have students create action timelines or plot diagrams.
• When reading biographical pieces, have students create timelines.
• Use reading journals to assess comprehension by having students answer key questions from the reading including:
o Who were the characters that you read about today? List a characteristic for each one.
o What was taking place? Define the actions.
o When was this happening? Describe the time as part of the setting.
o Where was it happening? Describe the setting.
o Why were these events taking place? Analyze motivation of characters and action.
o How did you feel about the characters and events?
o What do you think will happen next?
o Have students write summary cards consisting of 5-7 sentences that summarize what happened in the reading whether it was in-class reading or independent reading.
Teachers are faced with a daunting task when teaching reading comprehension. Using a few quick steps to help students focus and help with self assessment can make a big difference. Often, it is helpful in the beginning to have students pair and share as they work on these different activities. This way they can see how others formulate their assessments of what has been read and compare and contrast their own. This can be done in a structured setting in the classroom with general guidelines to keep students on task and respectful. If a teacher allows students to pair and share for just five minutes a day when these activities are completed, it allows collaboration and reflection for each student.
